The fascinatingly told story of the most Russian of composers, who lived through wars, revolutions, and who rose up through a difficult Slav village life to bring ancient cultures, rhythms, folk and children's songs, and old harmonies, to the West. He became a great composer of classical music and operas. Former owner's (the inscribee's) scenic bookplate to the front end-paper, else near fine in beige linen with brown embossed titles to the front cover and to the spine; in a slightly shelf-edge-worn, very good dust jacket with some rub-wear to the spine folds and flap folds, with very short shelf-edge tears, and some small chips and nicks to the upper shelf edge; original $2.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
