THE SUN FIELD
by Heywood Broun New York : G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1923. (both printings were in October, 1923). Second issue binding: Dark gray cloth (the first issue was red). In the first presumed printing dust jacket (we detect no differences). Minor crimp to the crown of the spine, slight bubbling to the lower bottom of the rear cover, else a very nearly fine, fresh copy with the text remarkably clean; in a near fine, green dust jacket with a tear along the upper spine, a few additional associated nicks to the crown, and a faint moisture stain to the upper spine and upper rear panel. "The first novel with serious baseball content aimed at an adult audience. The book is narrated by a former sportswriter, as Broun was, in love with a free-spirited, intellectual feminist, as was Broun's wife, while she falls for a baseball player who is clearly modeled on Babe Ruth. Numerous players of the early 1920s appear by name."--Andy McCue, Baseball by the Books: A History and Bibliography of Baseball Fiction (page 25). AN UNUSUALLY FRESH COPY OF THIS SCARCE BOOK!
