THE RED LAMP

by Mary Roberts Rinehart

New York: George H. Doran Company, (1925).

First edition, first printing.

Contains publisher's seal, indicating first printing, to the copyright page.

Last title of the printed Doran books listed to the verso of the dust jacket is Thomas Burke's THE WIND AND THE RAIN, indicating a first printing dust jacket.

A mystery novel, as seen through the journal of William A. Porter, that describes an interesting assortment of characters who develop as the plot thickens.

Rinehart's nineteenth novel, just preceding THE BAT, from which plays and films were adapted, and from which Bob Kane drew his inspiration for BAT MAN.

Dubbed the American Agatha Christie, Rinehart greatly influenced the mystery genre and its writing style.

Lower cover corners, and lower corners of the last few pages slightly bumped, end-papers faintly age-toned, else very good in bright green linen with bright orange embossed titles to the front cover and to the spine; in a very good dust jacket with raised gold titles and flourish to the front panel, small chips to the upper & lower spine ends, age-toning to the spine panel, a one-inch tear accompanied by a crease to the lower front panel, a few tiny chips to the shelf-edges and corner tips, light soiling and a half-inch tear to the rear panel.

Quite presentable.

Octavo; 317 pages.
