The Piranha Press line of comics, published by DC Comics, was intended for mature audiences, and was largely the result of too many older and adult readers drifting away from DC Comics, and instead reading the output of less constrained publishers such as Eclipse, First, Pacific, Capital, Kitchen Sink, and so on.  Piranha Press attracted writers and artists whose work was too "edgy" for mainstream comic books, and much of the Piranha line may be considered too "artsy" and obscure for the average comic book reader.
