Ventura County California based artist Monteve Miller-Clay usually begins a painting with only the concept of the first color. The colors and passages then reveal themselves to her, telling Monteve what comes next, and eventually telling her when to stop. 

The weathering effects of nature and age are a common visual theme in her work; the subtleties and patinas they create -- on surfaces both natural and man made -- often find their way onto her canvas.
Monteve Miller Clay draws upon parallels between nature's processes and human experience, demonstrating that geometric shapes on canvas can represent strength without denying vulnerability.
