She has performed with symphonies and in cabarets. Recently Ms. Edissi - "K.K." to her friends - performed A Broadway Celebration with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, as guest soloist. Now, with the release of her new CD Broadway Baby, she has done it all. This former Miss Southern Illinois received her formal vocal training at Brenau College in Gainsville, Georgia, and at Southern Illinois University. Ms. Edissi has also studied Film with Ross Clydesdale in Toronto and studied Opera with Richard Fredericks at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. In addition to all of her formal training she taught herself the piano, flute, drums, and even the bugle. After twenty years performing in New York City, including three runs on Broadway (The Canterbury Tales, Broadway Salutes Lincoln Center, Evening with Kamahl) Karen K. Edissi moved to Canada. Since then, she has performed at dozens of Canadian theatres, including the Drayton Festival Theatre for six seasons and the Stratford Festival for four seasons (her favourite role at Stratford was as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls). Over the years Ms. Edissi has played a wide variety of stage characters, from Nancy in Oliver to the Baroness in the Sound of Music. As a screen actress, she has appeared on numerous programs. Now finally, to the delight of her fans, Karen K. Edissi has released her first CD. Broadway Baby, a collection of new and classic Broadway and Film music, hit stores on October 16th, 2001. Accompanying her on the album is none other than the critically acclaimed jazz orchestra, Windjammers.
