NATIONAL TWIST DRILL & TOOL CO REAMERS / MILLING CUTTERS 4.5" Vintage Antique DETROIT Michigan. Made in USA. Circa 1903 - 1940. These were made in Detroit sometime between 1903 to 1940. After 1940 the company moved to Rochester Hills, MI. See company history below.
TWO (2) National Twist Drill & Tool Company "special" reamers / milling cutters. These cutters look new, unused, with traces of cosmolene on them SMALL spots of light rust near the center hole, end of cutter. These are still wrapped in original wrapping in the original antique box. These are large and total weight is 3.5 lbs.
5 flute center drilled. The double notch at small end of shank is .700, with taper from .850 to approximately .950. The shank is 1.875 long with a Whistle Notch. I have no means of measuring a 5 flute cutter........but 'roughly' 1.900 diameter......give or take a half inch. Across 2 flutes is 1.700.
Overall length is 4.500 inches. I have no idea what shank type these cutters are. If you need more info / measurements, just ask.
Considering the age, the box is in pretty good shape with metallic reinforced corners. I can't read the faded information on the label. See photo. This is the original box and wrapping paper. History of National Twist Drill & Tool: was established in 1903 by William H. McGregor. The company specialized in rotating metal cutting tools of the type that were in increasing demand in the growing automobile industry at the time. In 1940, National Twist Drill & Tool opened a new factory at 6875 North Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, Michigan. During World War II, National Twist Drill supplied approximately 95 percent of the U.S. Navy’s highspeed metal cutting tools, and the company was one of a few in the country that machined armor plates for battleships, the report states. National Twist Drill closed in 1983. International buyers are welcome. International: All import fees, VAT and tariffs are the responsibility of the buyer.
