The girls' debut was overseen by Sean "Puffy" Combs, who managed to avoid prosecution long enough to put all the right elements in place to make IT WAS ALL A DREAM a success. The girls themselves are identified--in classic teen-pop fashion--only by their first names, but how many surnames could anyone ever recall in the heyday of, say, the Bay City Rollers? From the percolating techno-derived rhythm of the opening track to the Kraftwerk-on-speed intro of "What We Gonna Do About Us," every trick in the book is employed on these tracks, the electronics merging with Dream's patented girl-group harmonies for a hit-bound sound.
