At TZ GOLF we specialize in vintage clubs that have a cult like following, may be underrated in some circles, are beautiful to look at, have great performance, give a better value than overpriced new clubs and will help golfers have more fun & style on the golf course.
Sam Snead, Patty Berg and club-makers Hall of Famer Bob Mendralla joined the Wilson Advisory Staff by 1947, and directed the company in the production of clubs for years to come. In the1970’s, Wilson Staff introduced more revolutions into the equipment world, including the Dyna-Power, the Fluid Feel and the FG Series blades. By 1983, Wilson clubs were the number one club on the PGA Tour.
Wilson remained the top club throughout the 1980's, introducing the Staff Tour Blade in 1985. This club was introduced alongside the Staff persimmon woods, which featured aluminum face inserts, and went on to become the top woods in golf. The Staff FG-51 was introduced in 1990 and new Dyna-Powered wedges were made by Mendralla, along with a reincarnation of Snead's R-90 sand wedge.
Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge 2-8 Irons w/Putter - 8 clubs total
Review/Info: "I had a set of the Sam Snead Blue Ridge irons, I think they were re-released in the late 70's if memory serves me correctly and instead of the sand blasted strip on the muscle back the finish was all high polished chrome. I also had a matching driver and four wood in a beautiful maple type finish (Strata Bloc?) They were not persimmon heads but the much cheaper laminated alternative....but to a teenager, they were nice all the same."
"I still have my grandfather's Wilson's... The Irons are great, but I am afraid I was not too careful with his persimmons... water damage. When he passed I was still in my early 20's. I was willed his clubs because I was always fascinated with them as a child. Though my parents met at a country club through the memberships of their parents... I never became a golfer until I was in my early 40's.
I moved around a lot when I was young... Those clubs just got tossed hither and yon... I went to work for a competitive man whose only passion outside of work, was golf. Being competitive myself I dragged out that poor old Wilson set to try and take him on... You should have seen the expression on his face when I showed up with this set (water damaged persimmons and all!).
We bonded that day, and he sold me is "old" Ping Eye 2's... (still have them too actually). I caught the bug... Big time!!!
I am now in my mid 50's, and a certifiable golf nut!!! Can't stop thinking of the game, or lamenting about the wasted 42 years of not playing...
I still have the Wilson's. I take them to the range from time to time to remind me of my Grandfather... I can't hot them worth a damn I'm sorry to say.
I really hate that I did not get to play with my Grandfather, or learn from him... Nor my father... by the time I became an avid serial golfer, he was physically unable to even ride around a course with me... My Dad had that passion as well... Simce my Dad and Mom divorced when I was 3, I never got close enough to share in that passion... mostly Sunday morning brunch followed by a quick return to my Mom.
I won't make that same mistake with my sons... they ride with me every chance I can get... They aren't interested in golf... YET... but one day... If they get into it late like I did... I want them to at least remember what it meant to me, my father, and my grandfather... When they do, those Wilson's will be there for them too."
