Henry VIII
"The Mary Rose, the pride of King Henry VIII's navy, was revolutionary in design and carried a formidable battery of cast bronze and wrought iron guns. Built in 1509, she was a successful ship until she sank in 1545 while going out to attack a French invasion fleet."
"The wreck lay in 40 feet of water, a mile from the shore at Southsea, for 437 years until her recovery in October 1982. The Mary Rose Trust was formed in 1979 under the Presidency of HRH The Prince of Wales (Charles) to survey, excavate and recover the ship and her contents and display them to the public in Portsmouth. Both the huss and the thousants of objects found with the ship are now displayed in the Royal Naval Base and open to the public view 364 days of the year."
