"REG'LAR FELLERS" IN THE NAVY

Illustrated and written by Gene Byrnes (pen name for Eugene Francis Byrnes).

New York: Ver Halen Publications, Publishers/The Brockway Company, Inc., (1943).

First edition.

A creative book thank you and patriotic tribute to the officers and men in the Navy during WWII by the 1917-1949 syndicated cartoon artist, and later art book instructor.

Illustrated with forty-six full plate captioned U.S. Navy Official photographs--each with an annotated comment--of Ships, Navy service men, and sea and battle action.

Interspersed between navy plate photographs are twenty-three double page-spread color cartoon strips with a running story featuring the Reg'lar Fellers characters with their dog, playing navy men and creating mimic ship action.

Quite elusive, especially with a dust jacket.

A decently preserved collectible.

Former owner's short inscription to the front end-paper, rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, one-inch hairline crack to the lower and to the upper rear spine gutter, else very good in blue boards with ship photo and color cartoon to the front cover and with white titles to the spine; in a very good dust jacket with slight tanning to the front panel borders, tiny chips to the lower spine edge, a 1 x 2 inch piece from the upper spine area, a slender piece missing from the upper edge of the front panel, edge tears, a very mild small tan stain to the upper front panel, rubbing at the spine folds and flap folds, and crimps to the upper edges of the inner flaps.

Quarto.

NOTE: We have placed the dust jacket in a new clear (removable) Bro-dart sleeve to protect from further damage.
