Summary:

The Green $treet$ Kids, who live in the town of Green $treet$, are having a great summer skating, trading toys, and running after the Mr. Bear's ice cream truck.

But Penny Bright, Dollar Bill (Buck), Hedge, Small Change, Short Cut, and Ona Budget don't have enough money to buy ice cream.

After counting their change, they start talking about money, its history (beginning with bartering), why it was invented, and the need to earn it in order to buy things.

Money facts, including that the Chinese invented paper money, are sprinkled throughout the text in billboards.
