Battle in the Civil War: Generalship and Tactics in America. Nicely illustrated and interesting information about a lot of aspects of the American Civil War. Lots of small digestible information! "Battle In The Civil War" is a good primer to how, as the title suggests, Civil War battles were fought. The booklet is around 50 pages and covers the following areas:
1. Army Commander's Problem - preparation for an upcoming battle.
2. Army Commander's Battle - managing a battle once it starts.
3. Corps and Division Command - how lower level leaders operate during a campaign.
4. Regiment's Battle - more detail on how a Civil War battle was fought.
5. Suggested Further Reading - battle tactics, memoirs, general histories, particular military branches (army, navy, cavalry), weapons.
The content is very readable and has the bird's eye view of particular subject (overall information instead of a bunch of detailed information). "Battle In The Civil War" is a good intro. Other reviewers have suggested other titles for more detailed reading.
