In Maine, Lincoln Perry is one of the young artists trained in the classical studio tradition who are searching the past for themes as well as techniques that are relevant to the late 20th century. This article describes how this successful artist uses many Baroque compositional devices in his allegorical paintings of groups of figures. RANDALL LAKE: REAL TRADITIONALIST by Diane Casella Hines. LEE WEISS: LAYERING WITH A BRUSH by Mary Carroll Nelson. This Wisconsin artist uses an unusual painting technique to develop rich textures in her watercolors. By repeatedly flipping the wet paper on a clean, flat tabletop, she causes the paint to mix and blend, thereby establishing interesting colors and textures. This Colorado artist paints bright, panoramic acrylic landscapes of the Southwest. Here he explains his on location working procedures and offers a step-by-step demonstration.
