This is a very cute vintage soap dish or trinket dish (I'm not sure about the original intended use) from Takahashi Trading Corp of San Francisco.  It features a happy, smiling turtle in raised design.  The dish is made of some kind of clay or stoneware with a sort of less-smooth finish, except for the turtle itself, which is glazed and glossy.  The color is a kind of beige or tan shade, except for the brown trim (which is also glazed like the turtle), and the turtle is shades of tan with a green shell.  The cheerful little guy has some flowers on him, too, which have little blue centers.  Dish is rectangular, measures 4.75" X 3.5" and 1" deep.  Made in Japan (the surface of the Takahashi label has worn off, so there's just an oval there now).  Takahashi Trading Corp was originally a small store founded in Japantown by Henri Takahashi when he returned to San Francisco following WWII, having been shipped off to the internment camps during the war.  He built the importing business to an enterprise with offices in San Francisco, Sausalito, and New York.  Quite the story!

There are a few very light, white scuff marks to the surface of the dish, which you can see in the photo, but no other signs of wear to mention.  Overall excellent condition, and really an adorable piece.  Very unusual, too, as there are not very many of these around!  Asking $10.00 obo. Everything I have listed for  sale is "or best offer", so feel free to make an offer.
