BIG OLD Hand Forged Hammered Iron Tin Punch Drainer Strainer Colander Wood Handle
I've NEVER seen one of these before. VERY nice piece. It's an OLD Hand Forged Primitive Tin Punch Strainer! The heavy iron is hand hammered and forged. The center of the circle is tin punched. There are two big hand forged iron hooks on the backside along with a forged raised iron piece on the backside of the handle.
Years ago, in many areas of the deep south things like pig boils and gumbo cook outs were an everyday thing. They would gather round these big BIG iron kettles to cook any manner of concoctions. They would literally BOIL the various meets (pig meat was the most popular). They would use these big forged strainers to dip into the boiling hot pot to pull out the various meats. Then they would set it down flat and the juices overflowing from the meat would strain through the tin punched holes!
This would make a really nice wall hang in any primitive decor. AND.....you could still USE IT if you wanted! The wooden handle is in wonderfully solid condition. It must have been painted at some point because there are areas of old paint still on it. The backside has two hooks so that when you weren't using it you could hang it off the side of the counter.
The handle also has a ring for hanging on one end. This would look really neat hanging in any primitive style kitchen. Nice, Heavy Piece! And what a WONDERFUL old conversation piece!
