This is for a rare dedication plate made by the village of Munchwies, Germany when it was incorporated as a city in 1974. The area is considered an early Roman settlement. This detailed plate depicts an ancient Roman war galley called a triere or trireme that patrolled the Mediterranean from the 6th to the 4th century B.C.
Pegasus is depicted on its sail with three layers of rowing oars on each side and a bronze figurehead on the bow designed for ramming other ships.
This is one solid piece of aluminum measuring 18" x 10" x 1" relief. This would do well set into a masonry wall, a doorway or entry to a boathouse or a woodworking shop. I've never seen anything like it especially in this size.
