"The Ashton Drake Galleries Little Drummer Boy Musical Animated Doll Children of Christmas Series 1994
Designed by Marlene Sirko, Ashton-Drake Galleries' "The Little Drummer Boy" is the first issue in the Children of Christmas Collection produced solely in 1994. The Drummer Boy plays his drum and plays Katherine Kennicott Davis' "Carol of the Drum" when the key on the back of the doll is wound up "pa-rum-pa-pum-pum" as his head, arms, and hands with drumsticks move back and forth to strike the drum as shown in the video. Crafted in fine porcelain, his soulful brown eyes express his earnest attention to his musical task and he is dressed in Biblical era styled clothing, complete with doll stand. The doll stands 15-inches tall and is numbered on back of head "M25113". The mold for it was destroyed after issue, so the only place to purchase is on the secondary market.
This piece is the first in Ashton-Drake's series called "Children of Christmas" movable musical dolls designed by Marlene Sirko. Perfect for the Ashton Drake collector or Christmas enthusiast. He wears a gray tunic, brown pants, and brown sandals with a decorative green shawl around his shoulders. He has a white turban around his head that hangs down his back, covering the winding mechanism. Hanging from his neck is a drum and he holds the drum sticks in his hands. The doll is new and was never displayed with the original protective netting still over his face, and as shown in the video, the musical animation mechanism is functional. The original box and certificate have been lost which is why this new doll is listed in like new condition.
