Pimpinella pruatjan is an aromatic, perennial plant producing a cluster of ascending or spreading stems up to 50cm long from a thick root up to 15cm long. Spreading stems can form new roots at the leaf nodes.

A popular and important medicinal plant in Java, where it is commonly harvested from the wild and is also cultivated locally. The plant is sold in local markets.
