The original author of the SUNDANCE series was BEN HAAS, who wrote the books under the pseudonym of JOHN BENTEEN.  When Haas died in 1977, the series was turned over to PETER McCURTIN, who was one of the staff editors at Leisure Books.  McCurtin wrote several (but not all) of the remaining books in the SUNDANCE series; but those which he didn't write were assigned to other contract authors.  Due to problems with the internal style of DEATH DANCE, several McCurtain scholars have determined that McCurtin himself did not write this particular book in the series, but had it assigned to an unknown contracted author.

The list of other SUNDANCE titles on the page facing the title page only extends to #26 NIGHTRIDERS, with the announcement that "DEATH DANCE is #27 in the SUNDANCE SERIES" -- so to me that would indicate that this edition is the first Leisure printing of DEATH DANCE.
