Kelly Among the Nightingales Crime Thriller Hardcover Book by J.F. Burke 1979
Samuel Moses Kelly, a native of Harlem, formerly one of New York's finest and now a private investigator on the Big Apples Upper West Side, has a new case that takes him through the high-pressure world of big-business publishing.
Bart Manfredi, well-known editor and socialite, had been giving a party to usher in a new book. And then he landed on the sidewalk forty floors below his West Side penthouse. With suspicious alacrity, the police call the death suicide. Manfredi's estranged widow doesn't believe them and she needs the insurance money. And so Kelly investigates.
Again Burke creates a tightly crafted suspense story with an ambience that the New York Times Book Review called, "New York City with its underworld subculture, its Yiddish speech patterns, and tough-guy argot, its pimps, gangsters, cops, whores, and murderers."
Book is in acceptable condition. General Shelf and corner wear. A few marks on front and back cover. This is an Ex-library so stamps and stickers. The pages are a little lumpy/wrinkled, so I presume light water damage, but still very readable. Staining on the page edges when the book is in the closed position. A solid reading copy. Please see photos for details, and let me know if you have any questions.
