Didn't Anybody Know My Wife Mystery Hardcover Book by Willo Davis Roberts 1974

"The mercury stood at 98 degrees in the thermometer next to the kitchen door.

I wondered afterward why that should have registered with me: one thin red line, when there was red all over the kitchen itself. Fresh blood. Her blood. Alison's.

"I could see before I stepped over the threshold; she had fallen between the table and the range, one hand sliding down the white porcelain door in a crimson smear.

Judging by the color of it, it hadn't even begun to dry.

"A doctor gets used to blood. . . . There couldn't have been a pint of blood left in her body, judging by the con- dition of that room.

"I said 'Alison,' in a strange voice that I didn't recognize, and then I heard the sirens.

Coming this way, fast. Police cars. If you work constantly with emergencies, you learn which sirens are police, which ambulances, which fire trucks.

"They were coming here."

Book is in acceptable condition. General shelf and corner wear. Some white marks on the front and back cover. Staining on the dust jacket. A piece of tape on the spine of the dust jacket.
