Kathy Whaley Ammon's paintings are a response to personal experience and worldevents.The workspeaks universally to humanity's need for love and communion with others.The paintings are not portraits but representative of all people and are bold, expressive images of life and the experiences that give life substance. Kathy credits her southern childhood experiences ofsmall town life, big extended family and strong foundationoffaithwith her passion for creating works that explore concepts of love, relationship and spirituality. Ammon received her formal training in painting through a BA in painting through combined studies at the University of South Carolina and the University of Texas at Dallas. From 1985 -1988 Kathy studied painting with Frits van Eeden, a renowned artist and member of the Pulchri Arts Society of The Hague, Netherlands. During that time while residing in Florida,Ammonwas an art instructor, with Creative Arts for Kids, a program she developed for private schools and child care organizations.She closed this business in 1988 in order to focus full time on her art. Since 1988, Kathy established her career as a professional artist, actively exhibiting in juried shows and obtaining representation by local and regional galleries. She moved to Raleigh NC in 1994 and was juried into Artspace in 1997 where she currently has her studio. Her studio is open to the public and located in the heartof Raleigh NC atArtspace,a visual art center ofartist studios and galleries. Kathy resides outside of Raleigh in the small town of Apex NC with her husbandand family.
