Morel Mushrooms or Morchella, the true morels, is a genus of edible mushrooms. These distinctive mushrooms appear honeycomb-like in that the upper portion is composed of a network of ridges with pits between them. In my community they’re known as “Molly Moochers” and I’ve also heard them called “Merkels” and “Christmas Trees”. A springtime delicacy that are only found growing in the right spot under the right conditions.....if you get there before the wild turkeys or deer find them. They are as much fun to find as they are to eat!
