Black elderberry is a shrub or small tree up to 10 meters (32 ft) high.
The plat does not have any special requirments for soils, It  can grow in very poor conditions. 
The flowers can be eaten baked or used for drinks. 
The ripened fruit can be eaten processed to jam, or fruit wine. 
The berries were formerly used for dyeing. 
Its leaves have an insect repellent effect, which can be used in biocultures.
