Primitive rabbit plane for cabinetry or finish carpentry.  Only metal is the plane iron which has no manufacturers markings and appears to be hand made/hand cut out of metal stock. The shape of the cutting edge is true and precise but the rest of the plane is not stamped out or cut by machine, it is somewhat irregular is if hand cut.  The wooden block 8 3/4 inches long, 2 7/8  inches high and 1 1/2 inches wide.  There are no manufacturing stamps or markings anywhere.  The very basic construction and type/poorer quality of wood suggests the plane itself was handmade possibly as part of an apprenticeship. The rounding cutout for the blade/wedge insert is irregular possible hand chiseled, definitely not drilled with a wood bit. Early craftsman as part of their training were expected to make some of their hand tools as part of skill development.    The plane’s sliding bottom surface is cracked because of a wood knot breaking the grain. Again this choice of inexpensive wood stock for it’s construction points to being hand made.  The bottom still glides along so the plane is still useable for the purposes it was made. It shows scuffing and markings typical for its age and use. Please see the pictures for the most accurate condition of the product.
