Radioactive Fragments Specimen. The radioactive fragments are Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM). Our radioactive fragments are perfect for educational purposes. We Do Not recommend handling the soil or opening the vial or removing the leakproof plastic stopper. If you do open the vial to examine the contents, wear gloves, goggles, and a dust mask. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not ingest, inhale, or bring in contact with food. Wash hands after handling the material. Fragments are unprocessed natural rock materials. It is a source of diverse radioactive materials, potentially containing minerals like Tyuyamunite, Uraninite, and Carnotite. Soil samples are tested for radioactivity using a certified and calibrated Digital Geiger counter. Our radioactive soil samples come in a securely labeled glass vial, shipped in accordance with NRC and Postal Service regulations. Soil samples may contain one or more minerals such as: Tyuyamunite (green/yellow) Uraninite (Black ,Crystalline) Pitchblade (Black) Carnotite (Green/Yellow, Lemon-Yellow) Uranophane (Bright Yellow) and Gummite (Orange-Brown) Uranium Fragments are checked for radioactivity using a Digital Geiger counter that has passed ANSI-STD N323A calibration from an independent government-licensed lab conforming to NRC regulations 10-CFR-34, 10-CFR-35. Soil samples are low-level radioactive NORM. Shipped in glass vial container as shown. Disposal: US Federal Regulations do not require any special requirements to dispose of NORM material, however local city and state regulations may differ from Federal Regulations. One needs to check with local regulators on how to dispose of NORM material. Shipping is in compliance with Section 13 from part 40 of the NRC Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and regulations and Postal Service regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.421 for activity limits of low level radioactive materials. The item is shipped in accordance with Postal Service activity limits specified in Publication 52.
