Spiral-bound, 2009, new. The Peasant-Warrior’s Guide To Hold’em Poker by Mike Petriv, author of the classic Hold’em’s Odd(s) Book, links war/poker and commander/player in a relevant and compelling thesis that winning poker is not only a game of the mind (seriously attended to), but of character as well, and that these qualities are to be found and emulated in army commanders from the past. As a former officer with a love of military history, combined with his expertise in odds/probabilities, and his knack for thoughtful, accurate, clear, and concise writing, he is able to delve deeper into the intricacies of what is required to become a consistent winning poker player for internet/tournament/short-handed play. The book contains essential knowledge not found in any other book such as his Cumulative Chances Table (Mulatable) for 10-2 players, which is a unique contribution to hold'em knowledge. There is much that is thought-provoking: "Weak suited cards (high-low and low-low) are the crack cocaine of Texas hold'em poker." Surprisingly, but not really, Petriv also includes a comprehensive yet very understandable step-by-step course on hold’em probability with related discussions distributed throughout the book and its homework and solutions section. While making you a commander worthy of the armies (chips) under your command, he enlivens his book with digressions and poker-relevant military skits. At the end of this packed, army/soldier-oriented book, the serious cadet is not handed a diploma, but a stinger missile.
