This volume contains TWO books:  THE ADVENTURES OF FATHER SILAS, presumably written by a French lawyer named BEAUREGARD De FARNIENTE, and intended as an exposure of the licentious unmarried clergy in France of the 1700s.  FLESH AND BONE, on the other hand, is a more contemporary novel, written by HENRY CRANNACH, and concerns the scandalous lifestyle of a none-too-devout nun who is exposed too liberally to the temptations of non-religious lifestyles.
