The newly assembled S.T.A.R.S. Charlie Team has been investigating a series of attacks across the United States, forming a line from Cristiana, Colorado on 22 October to Batavia, Nebraska on 31 October, which they learn is the result of a travelling band of Zombie circus performers. Whereas only Raquel Fields took part in the investigation in Cristiana, where it is implied she was attacked, the rest of the team has been deployed to Batavia, consisting of Falcon, Jesse Alcorn, Quan Williamson, Rosa Cardenas and Patrick Brady. S.T.A.R.S. HQ has estimated some thirty Zombies in the area to be eliminated. Along with human enemies there are also circus animals such as a zombified lion, which Patrick takes down with a spark-shot.

It is explained by flashback and narration Patrick, the communications expert, survived his experience at Raccoon City Zoo and received an emergency medical procedure to reverse the effects of the G-Virus, giving him a lasting sense of nearby G monsters which made him a perfect recruit for S.T.A.R.S. Falcon, the team leader, joined S.T.A.R.S. after being discharged from the Rangers over an international incident, and recently helped Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S. members Chris and Jill in their investigation of Umbrella in Europe. Rosa is a Mexican-Hopi who learnt tracking skills on the reservation; she joined S.T.A.R.S. after her mother was killed in a Raccoon City diner. Quan, the vehicle specialist, is a Thai-Australian who joined S.T.A.R.S after experiencing Leon Kennedy's attack on an Umbrella lab at Saguaro Wells. Jesse is the team's computer expert who's membership was the result of an ultimatum by the government after hacking into NORAD - join S.T.A.R.S. or serve a life in jail.

Back in the fight, the decision is made to simply incinerate the zombified circus folk and animals rather than shoot them - taking out a Zombie Elephant in the process. Rosa damages a zombie's arm; it reacts by pulling it out from its socket - Rosa proceeds to beat it to death with it. Patrick, meanwhile is captured by zombie acrobats, and Jesse has to shoot them from the ground. The entire circus goes up in flames after all four explosives carried by the team detonate.

A red haired man is recovered from near the circus tents. Falcon recognises him as an Umbrella employee. Held at knife-point, he explains his presence there as being to monitor a standard containment op, and to give S.T.A.R.S. Charlie team a "proper welcome". While Falcon is demanding of details as to how Umbrella knew they'd be in Nebraska, it is too late; the man has died from his wounds.

Back at Charlie Team headquarters, Falcon introduces Raquel Fields as the newest member of the team; she apologises for having been delayed by an "unplanned incident" (the outbreak in Colorado). Falcon briefs Raquel on their mission - to eliminate Umbrella and their bio-weapons in order to prevent another incident like Raccoon City. Raquel requests a bathroom break fifteen minutes before the team is to leave; her condition has been getting progressively worse since the incident in Colorado where she was bitten in the arm. She cannot remember the incident.

At the S.T.A.R.S. staging area, their mission is made clear. The Nebraska mission allowed the team to retrieve sensitive information regarding Umbrella's new bases, where they are working on new bio-weapons research. They will be split into two investigation teams. Rosa is to lead Quan and Patrick to an Umbrella facility in Alaska, while Falcon is to lead Jesse and Raquel to Mexico.

Arriving in an isolated Mexican town, the team spot zombies dressed ready for a Día de Muertos parade.

Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard,[a] is a Japanese horror video game series and media franchise created by Capcom. It consists of survival horror, third-person shooter, and first-person shooter games. The franchise has expanded into a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and other media and merchandise.

In 2021, a reboot film was made, titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Despite all the installments receiving generally negative reviews from critics, the Resident Evil film series has grossed over $1.2 billion. At various points throughout the 2010s, the series was the highest-grossing film series based on a video game, the highest-grossing zombie film series, and the highest-grossing horror film series although it has since been surpassed in all of these categories. The series does hold the record for the most live-action film adaptations of a video game.

Constantin Film was in development of a Resident Evil animated series in 2005, intended as a spin-off of Resident Evil: Apocalypse which would continue Alice and Jill's adventures in the event Sony turned down work on a third film. When Resident Evil: Extinction was greenlit, this project was abandoned. A second attempt at a TV series arose in 2014; owing to a deterioration in Constantin's relationship with Sony Pictures over the cancellation of Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes and Sony Pictures Television's disinterest in the Shadowhunters series, Constantin began shopping around for alternate financiers with the intention it begin production following the release eof Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Work renewed on the television show project in late 2018 following the cancellation of Shadowhunters, with Constantin approaching Netflix to finance the film, with production outsourced to Moonlighting Film, their South Africa partner on The Final Chapter. The series was formally announced in 2020, having been greenlit as an eight episode series with each episode one hour in length. Andrew Dabb was hired as Showrunner alongside a number of other Netflix projects. Due to delays brought on by the pandemic, production was delayed eight months and took place from February-July 2021.

The story makes heavy use of flashbacks, set in both 2022 and 2036. The 2022 plotline involve 14-year-old half-twins Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realize that their father may be concealing dark secrets, both that could destroy the world and reveal their true origins. The 2036 plotline takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where Umbrella's T-virus has spread across the world, mutating wildlife and six billion human victims, called "Zeroes", leaving behind a mere 15 million uninfected refugees. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world. The series is scheduled to premiere on July 14, 2022.

A CG anime series, subtitled Infinite Darkness, starring Resident Evil 2 protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, was released on July 8, 2021 on Netflix.
