Vintage Miriam Haskell Frank Hess Asian Double Sided Enamel Dragon Bead Necklace
Lots of drama here! Green enamel beads measure 1 1/2”x 1 1/2”. They are covered on both sides with silver overlay in a dragon design.
Between each bead round dark green glass beads catch the light, transforming into tiny green lanterns. The shape of coral is represented in white and pale green glass dangles. There are also opaque milky green glass beads throughout.
The necklace is 17” long. It probably dates from the 1930’s-1940’s.
There are no missing pieces. The necklace is in excellent condition.
Miriam Haskell Frank Hess pieces created before 1950 were not signed.
Some info from the vintage unscripted website -
In a time when men ran the jewelry business world, Miriam Haskell was an anomaly. She made the business decisions and ran the company. Frank Hess was head designer. Within just a few years, the pair went from a small shop inside New York’s McAlpin Hotel to multiple shops including Saks Fifth Ave, Burdines, and a London boutique. The beauty and quality of jewelry produced brought a heady clientele that included Joan Crawford, Lucille Ball, Gloria Vanderbilt, and the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson.
In other words..fabulous jewelry….like this necklace!
