Item Description
1880 century blue/gray "De Bracy Rowena" 10 3/4" oval platter by Wedgwood and is from the company's "Ivanhoe" range. Wedgwood produced a variety of pieces designed by Thomas Allen which were decorated with scenes taken from Sir Walter Scott's historical novel by the same name. This oval platter is titled "De Bracy Rowena" and features an interior scene with mercenary knight Sir Maurice de Bracy who has kidnapped the Lady Rowena and imprisoned her in Torquilstone, a castle belonging to the villain Reginald Front-de-Boeuf. De Bracy has just demanded that she marry him or face dire consequences. The platter has a elaborate border made up of a variety of birds including turkeys, chickens, geese and partridges along with fish and a pair of rabbits, all of which are set amongst flowers and foliage. The border also includes 6 cartouches with images of characters from Ivanhoe: "Lady Rowena", "Coeur de Lion", "The Templar", "Rebecca", "Isaac of York", and "Wamba".very good condition, some light surface scratches and light crazing commensurate with age [walderbskt]About UsAbout Us
