"Stanley Wingate Woodward (1890 – 1970)

Painter, etcher, and illustrator Stanley Woodward was born in Malden, Massachusetts and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He was primarily an illustrator for magazines such as Collier's, taught at several schools including the Ringling Art School in Sarasota, Florida, and wrote significant works on marine painting. He lived for many years in Rockport, Massachusetts. The distinctive natural beauty of the New England coast inspired his passion for nautical subjects, which comprise the majority of his work. He exhibited at major galleries including the National Academy of Design and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and died at Rockport."
