This water jug is kind of unique because it was made by Owens-Illinois Glass Company -- which normally makes bottles and jars, not tableware. The pitcher is 10 inches tall and 4 1/4 wide across the bottom. It gets slightly wider towards the middle. There are faceted panels 3/4 inch wide around the bottom part of the pitcher. It it is a sturdy glass bottle/jug and has a sturdy handle, which 2 average size fingers can fit into. It has a nicely shaped pour spout. The jug weighs about 2 1/2 pounds.
The glass is clear glass covered with fired-on blue on the sides. The bottom is uncolored. On the bottom is the Owens-Illinois mark of a diamond over a slightly rectangular O, with an I in the middle. Around the mark are the numbers 2 on the left, 9 above the mark, and 1 on the right. It is believed that this jug was probably made at the Huntington, West Virginia plant, in 1951 (could possibly be earlier). Now is your chance to add this uncommon and unique jug to your collection!
There is no damage, but the blue fired-on paint has chipped off in a few small spots. (The most noticeable spots are shown in the last 2 photos.)
