MUSEUM Lot of 2 DYNATAC 8000F and 8000M Motorola Brick Phones

with Rare Accessories / Tested/Working

RM072024-1

When Martin Cooper was working for Motorola in the 1960’s he could not have predicted how cell/mobile phones would change global culture and social media forever. The first truly hand held mobile phone was the DYNATAC (dynamic adaptive total area coverage) . Cooper made the first true cell call in 1973.

It was not until 1983 that the FCC and IEEE gave their approval. One of the first cell carriers using 800 AMPS was AMERITECH. AMERITECH network was a CHICAGO BASED CARRIER, owned by AT&T  and was based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1984.  Eventually owned by SBC after the AT&T breakup. At that time CELLULAR ONE was also intertwined. Eventually part of American Information Technologies.

As part of this lot of CELL PHONE HISTORY IS:

Professionally Framed  AMERITECH original commemorative art (11”x13”) . It is  an aluminum frame and matted LIMITED EDITION image  of a stylized neo modern utopian city with an abstract phone . The beginning of a NEW ERA!!!!   The network supporting the Motorola DYNATAC phones was turned on SEPT. 1983. It was an 800 amps system. THE DAY IN HISTORY WHICH CHANGED OUR WORLD. AMERITECH installed the cell system in 15 cars that parked outside Soldier Field in CHICAGO.  Cubs announcer, Jack Brickhouse gave the play by play thru a call to these phones.

THIS PRINT WAS ONLY GIVEN to those lucky 15 people who got the FIRST CELL PHONES at SOLDIER FIELD. The day in history was SEPTEMBER 13, 1983. On that day the truly first CELL PHONE call was made to the son of Alexander Graham Bell.  The original phone was the Motorola 8000x. Retail $3999 at that time and 42 cents/minute.  The commemorative  print was obtained from one of the first 15 people to get a cell phone that day. HENCE only 15 of these were ever printed.  How many survived ?  More provenance can be provided to the buyer of this lot.

As an historical note: the first self sustaining controlled nuclear reaction, which also changed the world, occurred under University of Chicago Stagg Field in December 1942 also in Chicago.

As a note, the seller of this historic cell phone lot also sold a piece from the original nuclear reactor aka CP1 - Chicago Pile 1. He has a keen eye for an historical item. A GOOD INVESTMENT.

Not only would museums like this, early techno collectors, IT people.  Vintage auto buffs, history collectors, colleges, or investors.

THE HISTORICAL LOT INCLUDES TWO EARLY AMERITECH PHONES. Not the original 8000x but in a great condition later DynaTAC - 8000F & 8000M example .  BOTH in great cosmetic and functional condition.
