Nice antique original letter signed by Theodore Roosevelt
Addressed from Republican State Committee, Fifth Avenue Hotel. New York December 8th, 1898
Typed: "My dear Sir:- I regret exceedingly that it is not possible for me to attend that concert. I thank you heartily for the picture of my little mascot. Yours very truly, Theodore Roosevelt"
Addressed to Dr. Ernest Eberhard, 250 West 23rd St., New York City
Ernest Eberhard was a German immigrant who founded the Grand Conservatory of New York City in 1874 with some help from the New York State Legislature. At a graduation ceremony, Theodore Roosevelt (then a state congressman), admitted to being involved in the legislation which allowed the conservatory to offer a Musical Doctor degree. Ernst Eberhard was the first to receive the doctorate and was the president of the Grand Conservatory for about 40 years.
