American born, Margot Van Voorhies Carr arrived in Taxco in 1937 where she met, and soon after, married Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo. The firm employed her designs and many of Los Castillo's early pieces bear Margot's distinctive look. Her marriage to Antonio Castillo ended in 1948 and Margot set up her own workshop and retail outlet at that time. To execute her designs, she employed a number of talented smiths including; Miguel Arias, Hilario Lopez, Miguel Melendez, Melicio Rodriguez, and Jaime Quiroz. Although all of her work was of excellent quality, she is best known for her pieces that combine silver & enamel. Margot was actively producing jewelry until her death in 1974.
