This species grows 1m tall and has white tubular flowers in summer, which are hinged at the bases and if pushed to the side stay there - hence the common name that they are obedient. This species likes rich fertile moist soils in sun to part shade, and is winter dormant when it dies down to basal rosettes. Plants are perennial, and cut back hard each winter. Suits climate zones 3-10. Normally pinkish-mauve flowers, but this seeds is from white flowered plants so progeny should also be white-flowered. Excellent cottage garden plant as it flowers for months.
