VTG Mid-Century Carved Headhunter Solid Wood Figurine Naked Severed Head 25" 60s
Vintage MCM (mid-century modern) carved headhunter figurine.
This comes from the estate of a US military family who did a lot of traveling throughout Southeast Asia during the 1960s & 1970s. I think this came from one of their trips to The Philippines during the 60s.
Carved wood depiction of a man holding up a severed head, with the torso of his kill laying in between his feet. The headhunter's left arm is raised in victory, holding up the head for all to see. The mouth is open, as though yelling. I believe there was originally a spear (or similar) in his right hand, but it is missing. The headhunter is nude and anatomically correct, with a colorful cloth belt at the waist.
Approximately 25” tall x 9" wide. Approximately 6 pounds.
There are some initials on the bottom - KN or KH, maybe.
This appears to have been carved from one piece of wood.
Pre-owned. The spear (or similar) for the hole in his right fist is missing. There are some flaws including dings, chips, scratches, missing stain, etc. There are some scratches and scuffs, especially around the base. There are also some noticeable flaws in his bangs.
