Here is a very nice vintage Yashica Atoron sub-miniature camera kit Serial number A70340566, from around 1967: The kit includes the chrome body camera, soft leather case, detachable flash unit, built-in sliding UV filter and clip-on neutral density and 80B filters, and the original velvet lined, vinyl covered, wooden display box. This camera has a fixed-focus 18mm f/2.8 lens adjustable to f/16, shutter speeds of 1/45 to 1/250 seconds, plus B, and rangefinder type viewing. The auxiliary flash is battery powered (two 1.5v "N" size) and uses old fashioned flash bulbs. A set of new batteries and a box of NOS flashbulbs are included. I have film-tested this camera with a roll of 100 ASA color negatives and it is fully functional, including the flash (but excluding the match-needle selenium light meter which appears to be defunct, as is typical for a meter of this age). See the resulting photos which are actually rough scans from the test negatives and are of much lower quality than you can expect from darkroom produced prints. This little gem was Yashica's most successful entry into the sub-miniature market during the Cold War era when they were competing with the more popular Minox, Rollei, and Minolta miniatures. Yashica changed its film formatting several times before finally settling on the Minox cartridge which improved sales and has the benefit of finding film and processing much easier today.
Indeed, right here in Portland is a fabulous resource for all things among the old and new in cameras: Blue Moon Camera and Machine. They both stock and process Minox film in black and white, color, and slide formats, and can make high quality darkroom prints from negatives or slides. They also had several boxes of the NOS flashbulbs available! They are knowledgeable, excellent communicators, moderately priced, love cameras and photography, and are very efficient with mail orders. The instruction manual is missing but is available online for free (or with a donation). The manual has much interesting detail, especially regarding exposure settings, and will help you create great photos.

I entered College in 1965 and it doesn't get any more "Sixties" than that. As today is the era of technology and instant connection, the 60's were an era of social consciousness and mind expansion. Interestingly, when asked which era people would like to relive the 60's Summer of Love is the most popular destination. But, it's not coming back, and it doesn't have to, because it already thoroughly informs and drives the culture we live in today! So, just remember the next time you are tempted to say "Okay, Boomer..." to someone who looks old that the 60's were our gift to all you wanna-be hippies and hipsters out there! And, if you'd like some relics and artifacts from that very busy decade you will always find some right here at Portland Pandemonium's The 60's Were Groovy Shop:
