The French term for a long necklace is sautoir, which translates to "jump rope". Sautoir necklaces are typically very long and often have a tassel or ornament hanging from the end. They can be worn at their full length or wrapped around the neck. 
Sautoir necklaces became fashionable in the early 1900s and could be very elaborate, sometimes serving as the centerpiece of an outfit. They can be made of pearls, beads, or chains, and can be beaded all the way down or have gems.
