Obverse description :

This medal has 4 medallions: the mysteries of the Annunciation, the Nativity of Our Lord, his Baptism and the Eucharist. The central medallion is a portrait of Pope Leo XIII in left profile.

Obverse translation:

The love of Christ crucified drew us.

REVERSE

Reverse legend : SIGNUM / SACRI / ITINERIS / HIEROSOL.

Reverse description :

4 medallions present : The Saviour praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, scourged, crowned with thorns and tied to the cross. The central medallion depicts the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary. Reverse translation:

Sign of the holy journey from Jerusalem.

COMMENTARY This medal comes with a yellow, pink and green ribbon. Size of medal: 48 mm, with hoop: 56 mm, with ribbon: 88 mm. Jerusalem Pilgrim’s Cross is an honour awarded in the name of the Pope as a recognition of merit to pilgrims to the Holy Land.

The decoration is worn on the left side of the chest. It should not be worn except in religious solemnities, processions, pilgrimages, or in the presence of the Pope. The Signum Sacri Itineris Hierosolymitani was established by Pope Leo XIII on 2 May 1901 to honour and to endorse pilgrimage to the Holy Places of Christianity in Palestin
