Tight, clean, flat, square, sharp and crisp book with light rubbing to the corners. Marginally toned, pages starting to tone.
The Power Boys were brothers who starred in a series of six mystery stories for kids in the mid-1960s. Early in this book it's stated that Jack is seventeen and Chip is fifteen, though the cover illustration seems to be of much younger children. Their mother is dead and their father is a photojournalist.
They have arrived as tourists in New York City to vacation when Mr. Power is called away to photograph a fire in California; naturally, he figures the boys will be fine on their own in New York, so he gives them some money and hops a plane West. They become involved with an elderly widow who's in charge of building a skyscraper and seems to be haunted by poltergeists.
The construction is lagging and seems to be cursed, so they investigate by snooping around the construction area, seemingly having no problem in riding to the top of the building and watching the Mohawk Indians who never get dizzy rivet the girders together. , The Power Boys alternately stumble and bluster and persevere until rights are wronged, occasionally exclaiming "Neat!" or "Cool!" when things go well. When everything's all tied-up and the excitement's over, Mr. Power arrives back in New York and presents them with a puppy.
