Commonly known as the flamboyant tree or royal poinciana, Delonix regia features a broad, spreading canopy that can reach heights of up to 12 meters (39 feet) and widths of 15 meters (50 feet). The tree has a thick, upright trunk that typically measures about 60 to 90 centimeters (24 to 36 inches) in diameter. Its fern-like, green leaves are pinnate and can grow up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) long, providing a lush, tropical appearance. In late spring and summer, the flamboyant tree produces stunning clusters of bright red to orange flowers, each measuring around 5 to 10 centimeters (2 to 4 inches) in diameter, creating a spectacular visual display.

Native to Madagascar, the flamboyant tree thrives in tropical and subtropical climates, preferring well-drained soils and full sun exposure. It exhibits good drought resistance once established but benefits from regular watering during dry periods. Delonix regia can tolerate temperatures as low as -5°C (23°F) and shows some resilience to wind, making it suitable for various landscapescaping applications. Its striking flowers and shade-providing canopy make it a popular choice for ornamental planting in gardens, parks, and urban areas, especially in warmer regions.
