Commonly known as the coast coral tree, Erythrina caffra features a tall, upright growth habit, typically reaching heights of 8 to 12 meters (26 to 39 feet) and a trunk diameter of about 30 to 60 centimeters (12 to 24 inches). The tree has a distinctive, irregular branching structure, with a wide, spreading canopy. Its leaves are trifoliate, with each leaf being up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) long, providing a lush green appearance. In spring and early summer, Erythrina caffra produces vibrant clusters of bright red to orange, tubular flowers, attracting various pollinators, including birds and bees.

Native to the coastal regions of southern Africa, the coast coral tree thrives in warm, subtropical to tropical climates, preferring well-drained soils and full sun exposure. It exhibits moderate drought resistance but benefits from regular watering during extended dry spells. Erythrina caffra can tolerate temperatures as low as -5°C (23°F) and shows good resilience to wind, making it suitable for coastal and exposed areas. Its striking flowers, attractive foliage, and ability to provide shade make it a popular choice for ornamental planting in gardens, parks, and urban landscapes.
