Product Description

Woodstock: In Search of Utopia, a film by Cambiz Khosravi, tells a story of Woodstock through the voices of original art colonists Eugene Ludins, Hannah Small, Eugenie Gershoy and Karl Fortess (interviews recorded in the late 1980s). It brings the story of Woodstock up to the present time through conversations with Ed Sanders, founder of The Fugs, John Sebastian, founding member of the Lovin' Spoonful, folksinger Happy Traum, and Michael Lang, co-creator of the Woodstock Festival of 1969--as well as young Woodstockers who are looking for their own definition of utopia.

“If you think the story of Woodstock begins and ends with a glorious four-day concert in the mud in August 1969, Cambiz Khosravi's gentle and engaging In Search of Utopia will come as a revelation, and provide more than a few surprises. Tracing the history of the Woodstock legend back to the inception of an art colony founded in 1902, the film (billed as a contemplation not a documentary) casually rambles through a fascinating kaleidoscope of images and sounds. Vintage photos; rare movie footage; interviews with local historians; tales told by aging artists and current residents living off the grid; and snippets of performances by classical musicians, pop music icons and street performers all combine to capture the mystique of the most famous village in the Catskills”. Joseph P. Eckhardt, author and Emeritus Professor of History at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, PA
