Brimless hats were called Calot hats. They fit onto the back of the head and were held in place with combs and bobby pins. This hat was ideal for wearing with freshly styled hair that a woman would not want to cover up. 

This Calot consists of a black and white woven straw cap with a sheer brim that flows out up to 7".

I show it one way but you can pin it on any way you want. It's in great shape! The cap is about 8" across.
