A whimsical and quintessentially modern ceramic figurine sculpture depicting a friendly hippo by Swedish ceramicist and designer Lisa Larson. Designed in 1958 for the Gustavsberg Factory and part of the "Stora Zoo (Large Zoo)" series. The hippo is one of the most sought after and rare designs. The figurine is made of chamotte stoneware decorated with olive/taupe colored glazes and geometric designs. Larson and her pottery are renowned representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. She is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
