An Indonesian (Java) Amoghasiddhi Buddha in 13th century Majapahit style. Amoghasiddhi is the perfect Buddha for those looking for infallible success or the vanquishing of jealously and envy.
This lovely Buddha is stood samapada on a simple basel. His robe is draped over both shoulders and cascades in classical waves to the floor. The lower hem of the robe comes all the way down so that the under-cloth or skirt is completely covered. The left hand of Buddha holds the hem of his robe.
Behind the Buddha can be seen a partial aureole. This symbolises the divinity of Buddha.
The Buddha's right hand faces outwards in the abhaya mudra. The Abhaya mudra "gesture of fearlessness" is a mudra (gesture) that offers protection, reassurance and safety. Dispelling fear and according divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions. His hands are held upright, with the palms facing outwards. This is one of the earliest mudras found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain images.
He also has a third eye or urna on his forehead symbolizing the ability of Buddha to see past our mundane universe of suffering.
The Amoghasiddhi Buddha represents the accomplishment of all action. His name means 'Infalliable Success". Meditation on Amoghasiddhi Buddha vanquishes envy and jealousy, two often impulsive actions.
