Specimen: Rare Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice with Widmanstatten

Location: Norbotten, Sweden in 1906

This is an opportunity to own a certified, rare slice of the Muonionalusta meteorite. This remarkable specimen, with its unique Widmanstatten pattern, showcases long nickel-iron crystals in a fine interleaving of kamacite and taenite bands or ribbons called lamellae. Plessite, a fine-grained mixture of kamacite and taenite, can also be found in gaps between the lamellae.


The Muonionalusta is a meteorite classified as fine octahedrite, type IVA (Of), and it is believed to have impacted northern Scandinavia about one million years BCE. This particular slice was found in Norbotten, Sweden in 1906, near the village of Kitkiojarvi.


As a genuine space rock, this slice of the Muonionalusta meteorite is a rare and valuable addition to any meteorite or mineral collection. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sure to be a fascinating conversation piece.
